Yet another cellular phone rings, this time at the gatehouse of the Quartermaine mansion. "Nedly?" comes the welcome voice.

"Lois!" Ned grins into the receiver. A wide smile has replaced the sad face he's worn all day.

"Nedly, I'm okay. Mom says hi and she'll take good care of me."

"I know she will," Ned smiles, "I just hate that we're having to handle things like this."

"Me, too, but it's for the best. I swear I'd bust a gut if I had to deal with Tracy again!!"

"I understand."

"Look, Nedly, We're the only ones who know that I saw a picture of the Cassadines before-in Alaska, but I didn't know until I saw Stefan at GH the day I went in with false labor pains. We know that Tracy is mixed up with Jax, and if there is a Cassadine connection, too...."

"This boggles the mind," Ned agrees. "Which is the only reason I let you leave town. If there is a Cassadine connection, then something major is going down-beyond ELQ."

"And, we've gotta stop it! No matter how batty your family drives me, they're family, and family sticks together."

"I think that everybody is buying our cover story."

"They'd better. We rehearsed it enough! Ham it up, Nedly. You're a performer-make 'em cry!"

"Don't worry, darling! Oh, some bad news, which makes me even more relieved that you're out of the action. I don't see a link, but Kevin Collins is in trouble. It's been hushed up, but Alan says that rumor is that he's killed Gina Williams tonight."

"What? That nice shrink that Lucy dates?"

"That's the one. I'm shocked, too, but it seems that nothing has been right around here since ---before Steve died."

"I agree-look, I'll handle things from up here. I've got a couple of very discreet investigators looking for a tie in, a paper trail."

"Good. Now, take care of yourself and Brooke Lynn. I'll join you as soon as I can."

"Okay. Love ya, Nedly!"

"I love you, too, Lois." Hmmmmm

"He what?" exclaims Luke. "Are you sure? No way, Sonny. I'm sorry, but I just don't see it. Not without absolute proof! I don't care what that 2-bit, pill-pushing, bead-wearing shrink says. Mac, too? Damn!! There must be something in the water around here! I'll stick with scotch, thank you very much! ....Count me out on that. Look, that bunch of losers arrested Laura for Damian's murder, and she didn't do it....Okay, if your guys find him first, bring him to me. He's my partner's main squeeze, and I owe that lady."

Hanging up the phone, Luke turns around in his club to see Lucy entering, her tear stained face a study in determination.

"You've gotta help us," Lucy cries, rushing into Luke's arms. "They think that Kevin killed Gina, and I know that he didn't do it."

"There, there, now, Miss Lucy," Luke soothes. "We're on your side."

"You are?"

"More or less. I don't believe that Kevin would have done a thing like that, but Sonny wants blood. The killer's-not necessarily Kevin's."

"But you'll help?"

"What are partners for?"

"Great! I need someone in my corner," Lucy sighs.

"Believe me, I know the feeling," Luke says fervently. "Ever since....for months now, something has been wrong. First Mary Mae died, then Damian got killed, not that it wasn't a blessing, but it did cause Laura some problems. Lucky got into trouble-I didn't tell you about that. And then Lesley Lu took sick which resulted in the Greeks showing up bearing gifts. You know, Lucy, when you look at it this way....."

"Don't stop there, Luke. You didn't mention Kevin weirding out, Felicia acting really strangely, and now this...."

Luke and Lucy exchange a knowing glance. Luke observes, "Either we're on the soap opera from hell, or there's something very strange going on in Port Charles!" Hmmmmm

Stay tuned!! Was Lois's departure really a cover for something else??? What's really going on here? Can Luke and Lucy save Kevin from.....everything and everybody?? Have they unwittingly stumbled on a diabolically evil conspiracy??? Hmmmmmmm
